Conversations around caregiving resources are rising

Did you know conversations around caregiving resources increased 35% YoY on Nextdoor? In our latest Nextdoor study, we explore different types of caregivers, the forms of assistance they provide, what resources they need and the impact caregiving has on them. 

In the U.S., 66% of caregivers are the primary medical decision maker, a number that's even higher on Nextdoor, where 75% of caregivers are the primary medical decision maker. Moreover, 63% of caregivers in the U.S. are the primary financial decision maker and among Nextdoor users, that number climbs to 72%, giving brands the opportunity to reach the primary medical and financial decision makers on Nextdoor.

Caregivers are always on the lookout for resources to help with their many responsibilities. The most sought after resource is mental health resources and/or support groups, which 58% of Nextdoor users look for, 13 points above the general population. 

When looking at the last month, 44% of caregivers on Nextdoor used the app in the prior 30 days to aid in their caregiving responsibilities and conversations around caregiving resources increased 35% YoY on Nextdoor. 

Certain conditions are more commonly cared for by caregivers on Nextdoor, including Osteoporosis, Dementia, Memory Loss, Eye Disease, High Blood Pressure and Arthritis. 

Caregivers most commonly provide care to their parents, and 66% of them live with the care recipient. Moreover, 55% of caregivers provide medical care assistance and caregivers on Nextdoor are 15% more likely to assist with medical care and administration. Furthermore, 73% of caregivers assist with household tasks and caregivers assisting their grandparents or elderly relatives are 30% more likely to be interested in help finding assistance with household tasks. 

Caregivers spend roughly 30 hours a week providing assistance and more nearly 2/3 don't hire professional caregivers to assist with their responsibilities, however Nextdoor neighbors are 30% more likely to share responsibilities with a professional caregiver.
