Quickstart Guide to the Neighborhood Ad Center

Jan 28, 2022 • Getting Started • Written by Danielle Styskal

The Neighborhood Ad Center allows brands and agencies to execute advertising campaigns on Nextdoor with ads in the Newsfeed, Right Hand Rail, and/or the Finds section. Once your brand or agency signs up, create Nextdoor ads and target based on location, audience, device, and interests. If you don't have access to the Neighborhood Ad Center, please click here to get started.

Read on for what it takes to get started. Hint: After you create your account, it’s just five easy steps to build your ad.

5 Steps to Create Your Ad

1. Create your campaign by selecting your objective. Objective options include:

  • Awareness - increase awareness and distinguish your brand
  • Consideration - drive traffic and engagement to your product
  • Conversion - convert neighbors to customers and drive desired action.

Choosing your objective will select default campaign pricing options.

2. Set your ad groups by selecting your audience and delivery for your campaign. We recommend your first Ad Group be set up with broad targeting parameters. This will allow you to understand where and with whom your ads best perform. From there, additional Ad Groups can be created to focus on or test additional audiences.

3. Get more granular by targeting your ads to specific audiences, such as gender, age, device, household income, homeowner, and/or interests. However, selecting a target audience that is too specific can lower potential reach and hinder your ad's delivery. We recommend starting broadly and testing different buckets in separate Ad Groups to get a sense of your best performance.

4. Select your bid type, bid amount, frequency, and scheduling. Based on your selected campaign objective, your bid type was set to either CPM or CPC. Making bid adjustments will allow you to set your CPM or CPC for each specific placement in which your ad will run. We recommend starting with a minimum spend of $100 per day, though there is no minimum spend required.

5. Build out the creative and copy for your ads in the Newsfeed, Finds (deal or product highlight) and/or Right Hand Rail (desktop only). You’ll be able to preview each ad type separately in order to optimize their look.

Ta-da! That’s it. Your ad will be submitted to our team for review to ensure that it meets our advertising guidelines. Ad approval should be received within four business hours.

Next, set up your payment options so your campaign can begin immediately upon ad approval.

Your campaign will default to automatic payments, which enables you to spend incrementally as activity progresses; you may switch to prepay in order to pay for the full campaign up front.

Our system will establish a billing threshold based on your expected daily budget, and you will be charged each time your billing threshold amount is met throughout the duration of your campaign.

Visit your Dashboard to access metrics from individual campaigns, ad groups, or specific ads. This is also where you can toggle on or off a campaign, ad group, specific ad, or ad format, and make changes to everything except your bid type.

The Neighborhood Ad Center will continue to evolve. As you get your campaigns up and running, feedback on how this tool can be more helpful and user-friendly is welcomed at adsupport@nextdoor.com.
