With 83% of Nextdoor neighbours having pets in their home, Nextdoor is home to an active community of pet owners and lovers. Our latest survey explores insights, trends, and spending habits among pet owners in and around the neighbourhood.
When it comes to pet ownership, dogs are the most popular pet, owned by 33% more than cats.
Companionship was cited as the top motivation for getting a pet, followed by mental health reasons.
1 in 5 of those without a pet are likely to get one in the next 12 months, while the odds of getting a
pet increase by 4x if a neighbour has recently gotten one *net of other factors. Other variables included in regression: age, income, education, race, region, children in household, and neighbourhood type.
Pet owners spent £1.6K in 2023 on their pets, and 52% of pet owners believe they spent more in 2023 than they did in 2022 (62% of Nextdoor users).
