According to a poll on Nextdoor, 90% of neighbours planned to decorate last holiday season. Much like the previous year, neighbours jump-started the festivities — 70% put up holiday decorations in November and 21% decked the halls with holiday lights and displays before Thanksgiving. With the 2021 cheer map - an interactive local guide to finding the best holiday lights and decorations around town - neighbours were able to plan the perfect sightseeing route to experience their community’s celebratory spirit and find the best holiday lights and decorations around town, from Christmas lights to Hanukkah displays.

To help neighbourhoods shine even brighter during the holiday season, Nextdoor used its annual Cheer Map to show nearby store locations on the map where neighbours could easily find everything they needed to make their holidays fun, festive, and low-stress- from beautiful décor, including live trees and inflatables, to great gift ideas for everyone on your list. The holiday display map also featured a seasonal how-to guide featuring décor inspiration and gift guides to help holiday doers get more done this season. Additionally, a dedicated email was sent to Nextdoor users encouraging them to add their home to the map.

Nextdoor’s Cheer Map garnered 1.37M views, with a total of 859K unique visitors to the map, which indicates that each neighbour visited an average of 1.6 times. The Cheer Map also reached a total of 614 total press mentions, including mentions in USA Today and Better Homes & Gardens, (+300% YoY) and 795M media impressions (+155% YoY) . There were 107K pins to the Cheer Map from neighbours throughout the campaign, with red and purple being the two most popular colors.
