Nextdoor AMP's Retreat: A Celebration of Community

At Nextdoor, we believe in the power of community and the importance of representing varied journeys and backgrounds. That's why we created Nextdoor AMP, an always-on program focused on amplifying multicultural perspectives.

Our AMP members are leaders from underrepresented communities from all over the United States, working together to create positive change and share their unique viewpoints. Recently, we brought a select group of AMP members to Los Angeles for a retreat dedicated to community building, storytelling, and restoration.

Connection and Reflection in LA

The retreat was an unforgettable two-day experience. Bringing AMP members together allowed the opportunity to meet in person, connect, and explore collaborative opportunities. We also documented an eye-opening, vulnerable discussion that showcased what community means to Black and Brown people and those with various intersections. This project was important to us because it highlights the unique ways our communities come together and support each other. There are powerful stories that need to be shared, and this conversation was a way to delve into them. Actively listening and learning help us as we work to authentically represent the communities we serve and build products that meet their needs.

Empowering Local Businesses Through Community Support

The retreat in LA was not just about building personal connections but also about fostering support for the initiatives and businesses that our AMP members are passionate about. For example, one member’s yoga and meditation program in Atlanta provides essential wellness tools to underserved communities, while another is building a vibrant tennis community for Black people, reflecting authentic culture and spirit. These efforts demonstrate the importance of local initiatives in creating strong, connected neighborhoods.

The AMP members’ initiatives and businesses, such as the financial literacy school for youth and the documentary spotlighting the local Arts scene in Durham, are perfect examples of how local projects can flourish with community support. These members leverage Nextdoor to share their work, gather community input, and drive engagement. By actively participating in the Nextdoor community, small business owners can leverage the power of word-of-mouth recommendations, boosting their reputation and encouraging others to visit.

Supporting local businesses is essential for the growth and sustainability of our communities. Small business owners often face unique challenges, and they rely on the support of their neighbors to thrive. At Nextdoor, we recognize the vital role these businesses play in our neighborhoods. By providing a platform where local businesses can connect directly with their real customers, we help them build lasting relationships and gain the visibility they need to succeed.

Nextdoor offers various tools and resources to support small business owners. From free business profiles, data-driven genAI ad copy assistants to targeted local advertising, we make it easier for businesses to reach their community and share their stories. Our platform allows business owners to engage with residents, receive feedback, and promote special offers and events. This direct line of communication helps businesses build trust and loyalty among their customers.

Nextdoor will continue to work to enable people to foster a sense of community. We believe that when neighbors support each other, everyone benefits. By using Nextdoor, small business owners can become integral parts of their communities, contributing to a stronger, more connected neighborhood.

A Welcoming Platform for All

By staying engaged and truly representing the people we serve, we're aiming to build a platform where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and valued. We are so proud to be walking arm-in-arm with our AMP members who are dedicated to strengthening their respective communities in the many ways there are to do so.

Celebrate with Us

The AMP retreat was a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together. We invite you to watch the video from our retreat, learn more about Nextdoor AMP, and support our members. Together, we can build stronger communities for all and Nextdoor is dedicated to being the tool you need to do so.
